Took the cover off the '87 911 today and noticed the center brake "ET" light was loose. The two posts that the torx bolts screw into had broken so I decided to remove the entire center brake light so I could still drive her until I replaced broken unit. Pulled the wire out, put a wire nut on each wire end and tie wrapped the wires under the tail. Check the brake lights and discover no brake lights are working. Tail lights and blinkers work OK, but no brake lights.

you kidding me ? those things are in series ? I guess Porsche couldn't afford the extra wire ! looks like your needin' a schematic there boy !!!

Make sure a fuse isn't blown.

Are you sure you had lights before the mod? I've changed my switches on the master cylinder twice in three years. Just a thought.

i did a 3rd brakelight delete on my 964 cab ( cause it is the f'ugliest porsche design ever) with no issue.

Fuses were OK. Checked the wires that went into the "ET" light and they were getting power. Then we pulled the lense over the left side tail lights, took the brake light bulb out and inspected it, looked OK put it back in and then everything worked fine.
