How about "baby" oil. You know...for your baby.

fair price Amar.... I had the hood and front bumper re-sprayed on the 996 and it cost more than that.... and was still un-protected - I think its a smart move

Ricster, with all due respect to your comment on the "definitely" yellows, this is my response. I take pride in keeping my clear-bras looking good. One of my cars has had it's clear-bra for four years and there is no yellowing. Again it all depends on how well one takes care of the film. It is all the accumulation of dust and dirt at a microscopic level (even though the film may look clean to the naked eye) that over the years contributes to the yellowing or that dull appearance. This can be minimized or averted by regular cleaning. I wipe down all the light dust/pollen on the surface my car every day with a california duster and then give it the customary weekly wash all-year round. Now how many of your clients are as crazy as me and follow that routine ? Not very many I presume. It does cost money to remove the clear film once installed and I do not have that much money lying around to be spent on bras (oops clear bras) every year for removal and re-installation. Ventureshield has foot the entire bill on my friends car which needed a new film (they do stand behind there product) as it did yellow after a couple of years. What they do not know if that he washes his DD car once in three months in a touchless auto carwash

Well I have a few clients that do keep the film up, but it still yellowed. They do have deep enough pockets to just replace it yearly or so.

Wow, those pockets must be quite deep Ricster. A clear-bra that is not in good shape really distorts the beautiful paint reflection. Even bras that are in good shape will create about 10% of distortion. It's upkeep (especially for the 997.2)is a challenge for me and I am up for it.

I want you to check out two products that we offer. The first is our sealant and the second is our cleaner. They both can be found here:

http://www.xpel.com/products/Tools_p...ducts&pn=R1326

XPEL Film Sealant is an acrylic polymer product that is purpose-made for protecting any aliphatic urethane paint protection film. Attaching itself at a molecular level, the sealant forms a hardened barrier when exposed to UV light. By sealing off the pores in the film, the sealant will reduce absorption of pollutants, tar, and pollen; as well as staining due acid rain, hard water and bugs by 90%. Because this product is engineered specifically for Aliphatic Polyurethane, it is much more durable on Paint Protection Film than other waxes and polishes. Apply XPEL Film Sealant monthly for maximum protection.

http://www.xpel.com/products/Tools_p...ducts&pn=R1331

XPEL Paint Protection Film Cleaner is designed to extract most environmental deposits such as tar, oil, hard water stains, bug acids and other contaminants from Polyurethane paint protection films. Its deep cleaning action restores the clear, glossy, freshly-installed appearance of the original film.

Films become dull or yellow because they are slightly porous and because of owner error(using the wrong wax). Our sealant will fill in the pores of any film used and will help prevent the discoloration of film over time. We also introduced a cleaner to aid in removing stains (bugs, etc) from a PPF kit.

I encourage you to give these products a try.

^^^ wow, I didn't know urethane had pores that needed to be sealed??

Ricster: not sure what type of cars you sell, but could the yellowing (if front engined cars) be caused or accelerated by the heat coming from the engine? So maybe, in our cars, the clear braw should last a lot longer with respect to yellowing.

w00t: The concern I have (not sure mentioned already) is how well does it hold up to rock chips over the years as that is the primary reason most folks end up respraying. You mentioned that you travel on roads laden with gravel frequently, so how has it held up on your other cars? I would imagine that eventually the urethane will start coming up due to those little dingers??

Your car looks great by the way, and considering it does have original paint, I don't blame you for doing the urethane. Not so sure about doing this for my repainted DD though. Thanks.

The product actually "heals" itself in the sunlight when it warms up, small dings will go away with time, larger ones may remain but they never seemed to get as far as the paint and didn't peel from there.

It's the edges that are/were the problem for me, they will collect dirt/wax, you need to take a very soft bristle toothbrush to them somewhat regularly.

I am very impressed with the texture of the xpel film (or lack thereof). Saw that on a friends car and there is very very if any distortion of the paint's refective surface. Kudos guys for a very nice product. I would love to try out those cleaning/sealant products of yours in the near future.

Tango to answer your question the paint holds up very well underneath the film even when the film gets exposed to some nasty rock chips. My friend even gently scraped his bumper on a concrete pillar while backing up in a parking lot with zero paint damage.

Thank you Carver. I debated for several weeks on this one after a colleague's boxster got keyed and finally pulled the trigger since I do park the car outside at odd hours of the night when I am on call . You can argue that if someone is determined to vandalize the car they can go for the windshield or door glass. My hope is that when they do key .... they would not know that there is a paint protection film.
