stuck plug
'84 911....my trans fill plug is stuck. I have a 17 MM hex head and it just will not do the job. I can only assume if it is rusted in place it has been many years since the past owner checked it.
Any help....I thought about attacking it with vice grips and then replacing it? Anyone with advice would be appreciated.

You can try a little heat from a propane torch around the plug, should expand the metal and allow the plug to be removed. But be very careful, if there is the least bit of oil in the area I would opt for one of the new sockets I seen advertised from Sears, it seemed to remove even a rounded bolt.

First spray some PB Blaster around the threads. Next get a flat tip screw driver and clean out the socket of the hex head. Take a hammer and lightly tap on the fill plug a couple of times. Next make sure the 17mm allen wrench you use is perfect without rounded edges. Fit it all the way down in the socket. Now get a 12"-16" "cheater bar", usually a piece of pipe to fit over the end of the allen wrench. Leverage is what it takes to get these fill plugs out. Once you get it out, replace it with an "outtie" fill plug. That is one that takes a regular wrench and not an allen wrench.

lost,
Experienced the same problem with my 81 915; tried ALL the remedies listed below, plus a LOT of *******-tearing straining but NONE of them worked on mine. When I had the engine out (and no - it wasn't to try to get the plug off *G*), wound up taking the trans to a local P specialist. First thing he did was to cut about an inch off the 17mm hex wrench, and then tig-welded it to the plug. Hooked up an air hammer to the hex piece, and "BRAAPPPPPP", spun it right off. Total time, about 13 minutes! So if all else fails....
