BBS 18's can they fit?
I have an 1980SC with what I belive to be a carrera kit with the wide fenders. Can 18 inch BBS rims fit? IF so what is the biggest size for the back and what would look good in the front? Basically if I can't go 18's how big can I go in the back with 17's??
Thanks All
Brian

I ran BBS 18 inch race wheels off a friend's 993 GT2 race car. Of course I had to swap rim halves around. After playing around with the rim halves, I ended up at 18x8 front and 18x10 rear. I also ran a bunch of negative camber. What also helped were my 30mm rear torsion bars which along with my 2250 lb sc, kept the rear suspension movements barely 1.5 inches in the vertical. But 18x9 or 9.5 would be better back there. I ran them for a bit than went back to fuchs 16x7&9. The extra little bit of grip I had wasn't worth the expense for 18 inch tires at sometimes 3 sets a year since wheel diameter does not equal grip as much as width. If it really did, Formula 1 would not run 13's. And I could run almost the same width on a 16 inch rim for less. Though I don't because I steer mostly with the back end. I sold the halves and packed the magnesium centers for some future project like a 934 or 935.
I once tried to use RUF 17x8 fronts, which are the right ones to use, and 17x10 in the rear like the yellow bird. After trying I saw a possibility, but some effort would be required. I had seen a friend that fit them on without resorting to the RUF larger-than-carrera-smaller-than-turbo flares. The lips were rolled and some negative camber put in. The tires were 255/40 which are what the yellow bird used anyway. With those tires, which were stretched, they fit. Barely. The thing was that the look was so right and good, that it was worth the extra effort.
