Ruby's doing a unique DE tomorrow....
PCA San Diego Region, we're running a "cone track" @ Qualcomm stadium. This is a DE with 20 minute lapping sessions, but in a big **** parking lot. Should be interesting. Temps around 70 degrees and only 28 miles from home make it comfortable enough. Track map below.
This will be the first time I've had one close enough to drive to in a while, so the old girl gets packed up. When I trailer her, I've got the whole truck to fill with stuff. I've come to the realization that I have no access to the rear seat area, so I'm going to pull the reclining Recaro and put another Profi SPG XL in, and sell the old recliners.
When I was getting ready the other day, I noticed my passenger side harnesses were expired with 2009 dates. I thought I was still good....but when looking at my driver's side, I saw they were 2010's. Never noticed they were diffferent dates.
So, I ordered some new belts which arrived today, so I'm good all the way around now. The old ones sure were dirty. Should've got black this time. It wouldn't probably matter, but I do have to get a check ride to get signed off to run. One more event, and I'll have my Zone 8 compettion license.
In all her regalia. Doesn't she look snazzy with the top and bra on?

This isn't an autocross. It's a DE with lapping sessions and run groups. I've never gotten the AX bug, although obviously many people do.
I suppose it is no different than when they ran races on empty airports with hay bales as markers.

I know Ed. Qualcomm Autocross is listed on the "Free things to do in San Diego" we were just looking at. We will be right by there at 9:30 tomorrow on our way to Normal Heights. We are stopping by a friends place in the morning and going to the beach in the afternoon. We were looking for something other than another beach trip, but the beach wins every time. Most likely Lucadia.
Good luck and have fun out there. Take lots of video please...

Enjoy! Glad to hear they're still doing those. One of them I went to kinda turned into a quasi wheel-to-wheel event, was a PCA v. POC "shootout" kind of thing, back in the mid '80s. We always enjoyed coming over from Phoenix for those weekends.

Oh, and if you find an old timer and want to get other stories about the "good ol' days" of airports and hay bales, see if anyone remembers running Holtville or Carlsbad.

there is an old airport about 1 1/2 hr from my house where the SCCA ? BMW and Alfa groups run a set up like that, PCA runs a "Skills Day" at that site and the DE at another (the other clubs also run at the other site.... but those cone "lapping loops" look kind of fun and are cheap IIRC

Wow that looks interesting ... it looks like a giant track with no elevation changes or camber .. just flat ... I will be interested to hear how Ruby does ,,and especially the tires) .. in this enviroment .. Good luck and remember the pics ..

Looks as though it could be very technical...a good learning exercise. That sweeping curved "back straight" looks like it would include "flat out" acceleration and shifting, all while mid turn - good chassis/driver workout. Don't get caught up in the conga line - flatout.

There is quite a bit of elevation change in this lot, some variety of camber too. I'll have video and pics for sure. Unless the 93db max gets me. I'll have to feather passing the meter. I got the strut bar from Elephant, but I think Chuck sources them from Tarret or similar.

I actually like the G force harnesses. I have on on my passenger seat. I'd be freaking out with all that stuff in the boot. So you get to go for your PCA club racing rookie license after this? Good luck and have fun.
