Stuff to do with the engine out
My oil pressure warning (idiot light) switch was bad and leaking. To replace that plus some other gaskets, dropping the motor seemed the right course.
Now, with the engine on a bench roller, I'm wondering, "What ELSE should I do while I'm in there?" Oh, the possibilities.
I plan on doing my own detailing. But what other mechanical fixes or preventives? Don't go nuts now, I just need the biggees I might regret later.
I'll start -
1. Valve adjust. Your turn.

Flush the small oil cooler. Check the intake manifold rubber boots (couplers) for cracks. Ditto all vacuum lines. Change fuel filter while it's easy. Renew sound deadening if required. Paint.

Thanks Kilrwail - Good suggestions. I have the new sound pad in my hot little hands to take to them. (I can only work on the detailing during their 'off' hours.)
Keep 'em coming...

I would do a valve adjustment and change the clutch and pressure plate while its down as well, as I was in the same position a few years back. Also remove the rocket shafts and spin them 180 degrees to have them wear evenly and put seals on the ends of them as well.

Thermostat O-ring FOR SURE. Go with the green one.
The oil cooler seals are so cheap, might as well replace them while the enine is out.
Check the crankcase breather tubes, check for deteriorating intake rubber, check hoses, check torque of those hard to reach bolts.

I'd not just flush the oil cooler-pressure test it too. I'd not be surprised to hear it had a leak or two. Aircraft oil cooler shops are great for this and it will look like new.
I'm not sure I'd touch the rocker shafts. Leave well enough alone unless you see evidence of a leak on the end.
If you need a main seal and you're removing the clutch.
If there is anything needed on your intake, now is he time.
Remove your injectors and send them off for cleaning.
Maybe remove your AFM for a good cleaning.

I'd say in a race with engine in vs out, the task list will be completed faster with it on a bench, removal time included. But at this point, I've got to justify!
I'm making a list (get your entries in now!) Kinda looking forward to doing all this pent up work at one time. Thanks for all the fabulous input.

hey no problem .. as ed said taking the engine out to do all that stuff is a great idea ... but if the mech told me the engine had to come out to replace that switch ... well....
