Funny coincidence here. I am in the middle of doing my Fuchs right now. Literally have paint in the gun. Still not sure if I'm going to end up with all black or if I'll have the silver lip. Leaning toward all black. Just finished the backs and will flip them over to shoot the fronts within the hour.

[QUOTE=Martin S.;10474350]...believe it or not, do an incredible job on standard Porsche wheels, don't know about FUCHs though, Wheels America, 714.670.0150, Buena Park, CA, $129 a wheels, finished inside and out, they pay return shipping. Wheels America has multiple offices...my friends and I use the Buena park office. They have a 1 day turn around policy. 100% satisfied with the job on my 993 wheels, cast aluminum, not forged as are the FUCHs wheels. Call them and ask them...don't know if the paint the centers or powder coat them.

I will have to keep them in mind to see if do anodization? Thanks for the info]

Default Experience with Rich Hartbrodt on refinishing fuchs

Anyone have experience having Rick Hartbrodt in Costa Mesa refinishing your Fuchs wheels?

Harvey is local to me but at this time of year his backlog is massive. I'll likely have Harvey do my wheels but was interested in the quality of Rick's work.

I have a set of four fuchs .. all 7s I have on my car and was wondering something.
I have a slight vibration and the shop just cant balance it out. they spun it without the tire and say it must be slightly bent and there is only so much that can do which I understand. Do these wheel places fix this kind of stuff ?

would suck to pay big bucks, get it back and it still has a vibration . Just wondering what the limit of these kinds of places is , do they just sandblast and respray or do they do more ?

Default Wheels

First thing, most recommend that wheels NOT be straightened. If they out of spec to the extent that they will not balance, to they still wobble, consider replacing the wheel. The resistance to wheel straightening is the process used, in some cases heat, then pressure. The overall strength of the wheel may be lessened, cracks may ensue.

But in the event you want to give it a try, I have used these folks for street wheels, NEVER track wheels. And, they do a good job. You may want to give them a call and see if they work on forged aluminum.

***This is the West Coast Operation...they have offices all over the country. I paid $129, and that included freight back to me. The straightened the wheel and refinished it front and rear for this price, and picked up the freight back to me. You send them the wheel. If they can repair it...they will. If not, they'll send the wheel(s) back to you.

Then there is Al Reed. Sometimes he can have a slow turnaround, but people swear by his refinishing...not so certain he repairs wheels...think he does. Also, I am not 100% he is still in business.

is it just one wheel? it can become a spare

you can also call one of the Fuchs wheel experts in Calif. - send them the wheel(s) and wait a year or two

Al told me he sends wheels out for certain types of 'work' - this was years ago, and I am not even sure he is still in business; IIRC his wife had some health problems a few years ago

Harvey is always backed up -- and for good reason

re racing - original Fuchs are decades old and have been subjected to many stresses over their lifetime; even forged Al is not a "forever metal" and I've seen a couple that have ... ah... decomposed very rapidly while on the track

I'm not sure if any non-destructive testing can determine safety for an old Fuchs

Been trying to get ahold of Harvey now for over a week. Left a message, keep calling it only goes to the machine, then this week i finally get a girl on the phone only to have her take another message. Still nothing days later.

I think i'll be passing on Harvey W. Gonna try some of the other places.

I have used him...assuming he is still there, one of my testimonial letters is still on the wall. It was on Bayer A.G stationary...That was about 1990...wow how time goes by. I am still here, let's hope Al is
You have to pin him down on time...but he is da man for Fuchs polishing...don't know that he can do the anodized finish..
