I'd like to change the rear engine cross mount beam in my 911 sc targa to a new one. Can I do this without engine removal?
Also, are there any recommendations about doing this to ensure the engine does not slip off the jack while the rear is elevated. I plan on using a floor jack positioned under the oil sump plate as recommended by "101 projects for your 911". I'll be replacing the engine mounts at the same time, and be taking care of some rust on the right hand side below the cross beam.
Hope the above is clear, and thanks for any help.

very clear but we need pics of your car to continue
I have done this tonnes of times . I just put a hockey puck on my jack and under the case joint . I don't do the sumpplate but i am sure that would work. All you are doing is taking the wight of the engine so I don't think it is a big deal . I took my cross plate out and spray painted it and put new mounts in . pretty easy job actually
Now let's see the pics of that ride and welcome to rennlist..

i couldnt find my hockey puck one day so i used a piece of 2 by 6 under the sump plate as Brad suggested with a hole drilled in it for the drain plug .. works fantastic and spreads the weight over a huge area. dont know why i didnt thing of it ..
