The frog eyes are not that aesthetically pleasing to begin with (iconic, but not beautiful from that angle) and the fish eye lens just makes them so much worse. LOL

Thanks for the kind comments on my 911 from all.

okay back at home now and I can see the pics and type .. very nice .. the pics are all great .. just think how lucky we are with the lines on those lights compared to the 928 guys ... a nice looking car till you pop up those lights .. Strange how they go from one extreme to the other ... i-con to eye-sore

The turbo looks like a toad. In a good way. Especially when lowered.

I remember when the direct importers spammed the wholesale market with H1's. Should have bought a whole container full! I think they were as low as $80-90/ea. Was always a pain to get the customers to go for them when there wasn't a paint shop around to do the trim rings up for a reasonable price. Even at those low prices you were looking at $500+ to the customer.

You could retire comfortably on a container of H1's!

I'd love to get my grubby mitts on a pair of Cibie or Marchal H4s.

Great pics guys.

I must say that this feature is what defines the 911 (and Porsche) for me.
When I thought about getting a 911, I never considered anything newer because the headlights just don't seem right to me.
I can't stand the look of the slant nose cars.

Ian, I love the look of 997.2. But now after looking at the Carrera 3.2 standing just beside it...the smoothened nose just does'nt look right

Close-up of the H1 lamp. These were at $1K/set used the last time I looked. Other than lenses, and of course bulbs, parts are all but non-existent. The big factor is their ability of having the two beams in each lamp individually adjusted.

In the pics, I try to show the low beam, which is actually the upper bulb, and projects to the main reflector, which is the largest portion of the surface area. That, in turn, throws the light out front. The high beam is in front of the parabolic reflector, sort of shaped like a trapezoid, toward the bottom of the lamps. The high beams, and the ability to send them fairly far down the road in front of you, are pretty darn effective.

Ed. Thank you for those beautiful pics of your headlights. I love the look of the H1 headlights. Why do so many people "upgrade" to the H4's. Can you educate a newbie like me. Is it just for better night vision.

The H4's are indeed an upgrade to the US spec lights that came on 911's. H1's would be an upgrade to the H4.

The H1's were never offered as option in the US, to my knowledge. The problem is, they aren't available as new, and they are through the roof for good ones, when you can find them for sale.

Oh! I was under the impression that the H4's were an upgrade from the H1's (thank you for that nice explanation..as always).

Every inch of these cars is iconic, but, hey, I'm biased...

I love the classic look of the peepers on my '87, and, after six years, I've come to appreciate my '99's as well.
