How low can they go? (911 SC)
Hey guys, I have done a fair amount of searching concerning the lowering of a 911 SC, but I mainly came across topics dealing with lowering the car to euro height. Is it possible to lower the car past this height? How much lower? I realize the car will need to be aligned and, ideally, corner balanced afterwards, but what are my options for getting the car as low as possible? Any pics or info is greatly appreciated.

Well if you go look at pictures of Ed's car it will give a good idea ,, i think Ed even raised the spindles. Tell us a bit on why you want to go so low .. is it for looks or track performance ? it may make a difference .. Personally i have seen some VERY low cars with the wheel tucked WAY up inder the well but persoanlly I think it looks like a clown car.. This is a good question however and I am sure there will be quite a bit of input. This will be determined by Wheel width also to some degree as it willrub otherwise.

A bit lower than "Euro", but probably 3/8" higher than where she was a year ago. As ice says, spindles were raised, some other mods up front to allow more negative camber, a fair amount of negative camber in rear too, very stiff suspension, fender lip mods in front. 17" wheels with 225's in front and 255's in back.
Most driveways need to be taken at an angle, and no running through intersections faster than 80mph.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason for wanting to be low is purely for looks. I do, however, understand that the car was built to be perform, so an alignment and corner balance would be in order after the drop. I come from the VW scene, so that might help you guys understand the desire to be lowww, haha.

I think most here think of air-cooled VW's when one mentions they are into VW's. I'm sure ts been done somewhere, but any time I've come across the topic of lowering, it's been for some combination of looks and handling, not simply "how low can I go".

IMO, that is too low. That height will be a problem, if you plan on driving the car. You would definitely need to mod struts, re-valve shocks and go to stiff t-bars.
Thanks Ed- I snapped that yesterday, but she hasn't been washed since mid-Feb!

Thanks for all the help, Ed. If I did decide to go this route, could I purchase shocks/struts designed to handle the stiffer torsion bars? Also, does the car allow for such a vast range of ride height adjustment without further modifications to get it lower? Essentially, if one were to go lower the car as much as possible without additional modifications, how low could it sit (ignoring any practicality issues for simplicity's sake)? And I have not decided what route I want to take with the car, but I want to explore all of the options.

The car is lowered via re-indexing of the t-bars. There are tons of threads dealing with that. You should also get a Bentley manual which also covers what is entailed. Shocks, depends on what you have. Bilsteins are very easily re-valved. Bilstein is here in San Diego, and does this for approx $100/shock or strut.
Your struts would need to go off to people such as Rebel Racing or Mirage Intl for modification. You may get lucky and find some done for sale as used.
