Cool

Gary:
I have heard that the police do the same thing in Washington state: poke along in the left lane and wait for someone to become irritated enough to pass them on the right or climb on their tail. Then they nail them. Nice guys, eh??!! Watch out for that ploy.

Is this by any chance a discussion about the discourtesy of the Pacific Northwest Porsche Club members on a tour outing?

Porsches hogging the left lane as far as the eye can see, sedately driving along the freeway in the left lane at the posted speed limit (wise choice that last bit) while driver after driver gives them the finger.

A windshield decal available from edecals.com (in your choice of color, of course):

I wonder if that would draw unwanted attention from law enforcement?

I suppose that's why 100 watt H1/H4s are so popular with the pcar folk.

I passed one of those "people" today on my way to a meeting. Clear freeway ahead of him; cars passing on his right. Clueless. He camped @50 with me and a dozen cars trailing him. I finally passed him (in my soccer-mom van) and moved into his lane. At last look in my mirror, he was 1/4 mile back and still there with a dozen cars trailing him. Clueless. I wonder if I should stick a few aircraft landing lights on my hood?

But why resort to simple signs, decals and placards for those choice words that invariably fall short in their well-intentioned meaning? How about a single wide-frequency horn-speakered, 200 watt PA system in your car? Announcements should be firm and to the point:

"Sir (or Mam), can you kindly move your fat *** to the right lane please? We're growing old behind you watching your left blinker flashing for the last mile."

Gallagher, the comedian, once suggested shooting rubber-tipped arrows with "stupid" and "idiot" signage at offending vehicles. The number of such arrows on the trunk of nearby cars is fair warning to other drivers in close proximity. It also provides accurate driver feedback (i.e. 4 "jackass" flags and 1 "I can't believe you just did that" flag = I'm an idiot). Of course their mileage may vary.

Do what I do whenever I am faced with that situation. Simply pass the moron, then slow down to about 10 mph slower than he is driving. Make him suffer for his infinite idiocy.

When I lived in FL, I was amazed by the number of left lane hogs and their absolute unwillingness to move over. Try flashing lights or honking and they respond by giving you the finger. Even the crusty old blue-haired ladies flip you off.

Another FL driving quirk I noticed is "vehicular coagulation." Someone will be driving below the speed limit in the right lane. A faster car, approaching from behind in the left lane, comes along side the slow right lane car and then slows down to create a "road block." Then, you'll see a more faster cars come up from behind and get gummed up in this group. They all get real close to each other so passing is completely out of the question. I can't remember a day going by where I didn't see this at least once.
