automatic transmission slippage error code P0733 and others

Hello,
My father recently picked up a great deal on a 2001 911 Carrera however the deal came along with an issue. We knew about it before the purchase so we were prepared for it however we can't seem to find the problem. This is my dads dream car. We picked it up yesterday and he was so happy to bring it home however I want to do my best and fix it for him because he's been a tremendous father for me and I really want to get this thing on the road, registered, washed and waxed for him asap.
So here's the issue.
I plugged into the OBDII and it gave me 3 similar codes. P0733, P0734, and P0735. These indicated "incorrect gear ratio" each for gears 3, 4, and 5 which are the last numbers in each of the codes. The dealer mentioned looking at some type of shifting module, to try and swap it with a new one and seeing if that helps at all. Problem is, I'm a virgin to working on 911's and I'm not sure where or how to check this or if this is even the problem. I took it for a ride and it runs fine when it's cold however when it warms up, gears 1 and 2 still pull hard but when it switches to 3, 4, or 5 it slips significantly, not allowing the car to pull any harder. I haven't gotten it onto the lift yet but plan to do so as soon as I get home from work. I'm trying to do some homework here and hopefully get some ideas so that I can approach this car with some sort of knowledge as to what the problem may be.

new, welcome to Rennlist, click on the water cooled tab and then the 996 subforum - plenty of help over there ---- this is air cooled (although technically all cars are cooled by air.........)

There are input and output shaft speed sensors that can create an implausible set of data for the control unit. I will speculate that this will not be an easy fix, most likely a new transmission. Get lots of opinions and keep an open mind - I hope it is external of the trans and easily remedied.
I doubt you will find someone who will effectivly disassemble and reassemble this kind of transmission for cheap. Its the same trans in most Mercedes Benz from the same time period. A visit to a Porsche shop with the correct software will give you a better idea as most generic scan tools will not have the capability to give you the complete data beyond OBDII.

at my indo there is a Sportomatic track car... the owner is phisically challenged and it has a handbrake/throttle set up, he somehow shifts, brakes, gas, and steers all with the hands... its really cool land I gotta say...I am glad (for him) that that car is available because he loves it and it is the only way he could do what he is doing

Sportomatic is a wicked autocross weapon. One of the first restorations I was involved with was a 73 911 RS owened by Peter Gregg...yep, sportomatic.(actually it was a 73-S, not RS but had RS bodywork and was given to him by the factory)
