Default Looking at a 911 Project!

I came across this 911 project not but a few miles from me.

http://omaha.craigslist.org/ctd/1726650011.html

I know $5k has to be a great deal for a 911, but I'm assuming it's at that price because of of the engine situation... Needing replaced or repaired.

How much bank are we talking, fixing up a 911S engine, or possible replacement?

Do you think this is a good deal, or should I walk away?

You can't go by that ad and determine. It will probably be a 2.7L, which are not know to be the best Porsche engines, and can cost quite a bit to rebuild correctly. You could easily get north of $10K on a full rebuild in just parts and machining. It isn't an S, it isn't a Turbo either, unless its aftermarket. In my humble opinion, $5K is no screaming deal given the little we know about it. The tail isn't original either.

2.7's can be fine motors, especially with proper oil cooling. All Porsche motors are expensive to rebuild and they all like to pull head studs eventually. I like the 2.7's personally, however I've dreamed about putting the 3.4 in my 74 (under 2,400 lbs).

I agree with Ed that this car does not appear to be any sort of deal, whatsoever.

typicaly on bank repo sales (old school talking) the bank pays the selling agent a flat fee no matter how much the car sells for. If you like it, go see it....if you still like it have a local who knows the cars look at it.... if you still like it low ball em and see.....

cheap to buy and cheap to own/drive/repair is not an equal equation
