What was the first year you could buy a 911 in the US with the classic ducktail spoiler?
I thought it was 1973 but I'm not so sure anymore. Does anyone know? Thanks!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

in old 911 land, simple questions can be harder to answer than one would hope.
the framing of the question is critical. if one were Peter Gregg, Roger Penske or Al Holbert, they could buy a '73RS w/ ducktail & take it to the track... but not legally drive it on the public streets.
the first yr you could buy a US DOT legal & stock 911 w/ ducktail at a dealer & drive it off the showroom & onto the street was '74... & that would be the Carrera model. I believe it could be spl-ordered on non-Carreras. In '75, the 1st whaletail style replaced the duck on stock Carreras. I suspect (meaning, "not certain") that the duck remained available as a spl order option/alternative on Carreras & std 911s for awhile afterwards.
interesting that the duck was found on competion cars & non-German mkt street cars, but not on German street cars... TUV safety regs... thus the whaletail w/ soft edge.

Your question begs for a complex answer when you ask "you could buy"--within the normal US spec lineups the ducktail didn't arrive until the Model Year 74 Carrera cars, and were promptly replaced with the whaletails in 1975 on that year's Carreras.
