Post Rattling noise

Hello:

I own a 87 Targa ( 47k ) for about a year and experience now following phenomena

While driving around and stopping for any reasons (traffic light) I hear a moderate rattling noise from the back while idling and the clutch is disengaged. After engaging clutch the noise disappears. After disengaging it appears again.

What could be the cause? Is it something, which needs immediate attention?

Thanks

I had a similar problem a few years back, when the gearbox was in neutral it sounded like a "tractor". Mine is a sportomatic so may not be exactly the same but my problem was the clutch release bearing - the ball-race had just worn out and the ***** had too much free play. Once the bearing was under load the noise stopped. Solution - replace the thrust bearing - engine out unfortunately. If this is the problem have the clutch changed at the same time.

I also have an 87 911. I hear that sound. I would not worry about it.
