Default Techron or Sta-Bil For CIS Injection

I've been reading the technical Q & A in Panorama, and Bruce Anderson talks about using Sta-bil marine in earlier CIS injection cars as a preventive measure of dealing with contamination and moisture from the ethanol used in gas.

A number of years ago the recommendation was to use Techron additive in
the earlier CIS injected cars as a preventive measure to protect your injection
system. My question to some of the Technicians in the 911 forum, is there that
much of difference in reference to what both products are suppose do, or is there a benefit from using one or the other?

I think they are two different products for different purposes. I use both and are happy with Both products.

I use STA- BIL when i am storing my car over the winter ( the marine stuff is excellent ) This keeps the gas ..well.. stable over the winter months, prevents water from seperating out in my tankmakes for easy starts in the first of the year and the first tank is good .. you have to fill the gas right up to stop the tank from rusting, In the spring there can be a lot of humidity. It then goes away until the next storage time

I use the techron a couple of times a year to keep my combustion chambers clean valve train etc. I personally think you dont need it with the additive packages of some excellent gasolines if you are using them , but it is a feel good thing for me and maybe my 30 year old car doeesn't burn off contaminants as well as a more modern car. I usually put it in the tank when I know I am going to be driving it harder . I usually put it in , Drive it like i stole it ( to get the temp up ) and at the end of the tank change my oil . i doubt any gets through but i just time it with a regularly scheduled oil change

Hope this help ..

Yep,...thats correct,...

Stabil is a fuel preservative and corrosion preventative.

Techron is an injector and valve cleaning solvent.

The former should be used all the time on CIS cars and the latter 2-3 times a year, depending on annual mileage of course.

Steve, are you saying that Sta-Bil should be used all the time because of the ethanol in gas today?

Changing oil after using Techron is a must. Some will end up in the case.

Thats correct. Ethanol is hygroscopic as hell and its the water and corrosion that kills most fuel distributors. Since most of the CIS parts are now NLA, its imperative that people proactively protect these vulnerable parts.

Stabil also prevents the fuel from gumming during winter storage.

Any thoughts regarding Sea Foam? Can says when added to fuel it cleans injectors. Cleans carb jets. Fuel stabilizer. Dries fuels and oil. Frees lifters-rings. Carbon cleaner. Upper cylinder lube. De-icer anti gel.

So I guess that means neither of you are a fan of Sea Foam?
