79 Euro,

I've been away from the forums for a while...so I've missed a few posts. I'd love to attend a couple of tech days in the near future...i'll check the Mav site-calendar. Thanks.

Regarding my preference for the 87-88...it's purely unfounded bias based on Zimmerman's review of the G50. Since I haven't actually driven an 86 vs an 87 I have no way of really knowing what I'd prefer. I do, however, like the pre-964 911s. That being said, I'm sure I could come to "grips" with "settling' on a different 911 model

I'll also look into the other shops for PPI services. Though, I got a good vibe from Hans.

Thanks again for the advice!

CSMAB,

Interesting comment about RUF. Just curious, who are you taking the car to now?

BTW, 79 Euro, I got an email from pingman and some pics of his 86 coupe...so we'll see, thanks.

$400??? Yikes. I was thinking the $325 i paid at rennsport was too much. Anyway, the PPI with Leakdown is a must.

There is an 87 cab here in Houston at Momentum Porsche. They also had an 84 coupe that I looked at but had a problem with the crank pulley so i passed on it.

It might be worth the trouble to come down here and drive them just to get some kind of impression.

I would invite you to coffee or a beer, but I'm in the middle of a plant shutdown for the next 4 weeks.

Good luck w/ Pingman. This could be a "win-win". Keep us posted!

Don't short shift. The sweet spot is above 4 & around 5.5. My initial test drive with the PO in the passenger seat I was shifting up @ 3.5 and bogging onto the next. After all this was his baby and I didn't want to abuse it. The PO tells me : "Come on, give it the beans!" Ahhhh, thats better. The rest of the drive was spent looking for cops. So thats what this Porsche thing is all about... I was sold.

So when I'm on a test drive; should I be upfront and tell the guy, I'm gonna give it the beans...or should I just sneak the beans in after he's got his seat belt on?

I have been taking my car to Dallas Eurocars and Nine Eleven Enterprises. Dallas Euro recently did all of my A/C work. Nine Eleven Ent. is doing alignment and front wheel balance. I am probably being too critical of RUF since a lot of my friends have had good experiences with them. They just ticked me off on my last visit.

Arch_horn,
Took my car to Zims today for service. Spoke to Al Zims, the owner, who said "we do PPI's and they cost between $100 and $300". A $100 I asked. He said, "if the car's in bad shape, we'll know and tell you so a full blown PPI may not be needed. Seemed more than fair to me.
