Problem: H 4 low beams are yellow orange, producing little useful light. High beams are bright white.
History: The original sealed beams were changed out to H 4s from Pelican Parts. 55/65W bulbs.
Info: Voltage at the bulbs is 11 or greater.
The wires are clean and good contact exitst. The cars is an 84 Carrera.
Thanks

Possibly your dimmer switch is going bad. Porsche didn't design the best power system for headlights. Many guys have decided to go with relays even when running stock wattage bulbs. Here's a link to a site with tons of tech info..be sure to read the relay section..

Thanks #15,
But 11 volts at the bulb is 11 volts. The bulbs should have sufficient power to burn brightly. I agree with you about the electrical system.
Scott,
I'll check out the ground. The wiring of the fuse section is the strangest I have ever seen. Power leads coming in and nothing leaving the other side yet things work.

How did you test the power "to the bulbs"? Engine running? Engine off? With high enough revs, alternator & voltage regulator working properly, you should be seeing more than 11...at the battery posts, around 14...good thinking to check out grounds...often a problem on p-cars.

The ground seems solid. Continuity is good downstream of the dimmer. Looking at it both high and low beams share a common ground.
I intend to test through the dimmer and see what resistance I read. If good I will change the bulbs to the 55/100's still in the box. If that works I will buy new 55/65's until I can install a relay for the higher wattage bulbs. If not I will live with it.
Sincerely
