well, actually, the 901 design did not replace the Speedster. The Speedster was designated a 540 in '52 (production ended in '58), rather than a 356 (though of course it was 356 under-the-skin). more apt would be to examine a '65 356 SC & the '65 912 (or even the 911, if one insists). those models share much DNA (ala Butzi & his Dad), even styling, if one examines & drives both together.
I may be biased, since I happen to have one of each, & wonder why I'm trying to recreate some damn magazine comparo from 1965.
