Default What tyres for fat 17" rims?

Can anyone advise on tyre size for my RSR conversion?
I'm having some 17x11" and 17x9" rims made and was about to start ringing around for tyre prices when i got to thinking that i havn't really got a clue what size to put on the fronts especially. [at least I'm honest!]

I was planning on 275or285/40/17 rear and 225or235/45/17 front but someone asked me why 40 rear and 45 front.... got to say I've absolutely no idea - apart from i bought some 17" TOYO 888's last month when the car was standard body in 40 and 45 based on the car originally running those profiles on its 16" rims.

Humble thanks!

It's hard to be real helpful with the facts you've provided. Is this for track use? The tire sizes you mentioned would certainly not be too big for 9 and 11" wheels. I run Hoosier 245/275 17s on my 8 and 9" wheels. And that's on a NB SC. Assume you have flared fenders. And remember tire widths vary from brand to brand. Camber is also relevant.
I believe Tirerack's website has a lot of the sort of information you're looking for. You might try there.
