As far as 'good and warm' goes...some folks say once the oil temp guage begins to move, but I always let her reach (or get very close to) normal operating temperature. This will not happen if you're just going a few miles, but I don't normally take her on 'short trips'.

Hmmm... The best thing for low end power is an American V8...

Some cars make their power down low (Detroit iron).

Some cars make their power at the top end (BMW M3, Honda S2000).

Everyone lusts after a "flat" power curve, methinks it takes lots-o-$$$ to make it happen.
