I know this might kick up a storm, but hear me out:

I was thinking about getting a WEVO shifter after hearing so many people raving about it.

I called my mechanic and asked his opinion. He tracks his 80's 911 regularly. He said in my case, which is I have a 915 Transmission with about 45K miles on it and shifts great, plus I had all the bushing and coupler replaced recently. He said in my case the WEVO shifter wouldn't really make THAT much difference. He did acknowledge it shifts cleaner/shorter, but he didn't recommend it for me. He said if the transmission works fine and you don't "miss shift", it's fine the way it is.

What do you use the car for? Street and some auto x, he may be right. If you're getting more involved in serious track use, I would disagree with him. I have one in my 86 track car and it's amazing how much better the car shifts. See if you can get a test drive in a car that has one. That's really the only way to find out "how big the difference is".

The WEVO and especially the WEVO PSJ shift joint made a tremendous difference in my 86 Carrera. The best $595.00 you'll ever spend in my opinion..

Made a big difference to me, i am 100% better off with this shift than the gear changes before it was fitted. My box was rebuilt in 2006 and yet still felt quite sloppy to me. The Wevo transformed it with tighter, neater controlled shifting. Definitely the single best mod to the car since i have owned it, though i had replaced the g-box mounts and bushes with Super-pro items too which also helped.
I am glad i stumped up for one!

I think the factory changed to a short shifter some time after '85. Maybe in '86 or so?

If you have a 911SC, or an early Carrera, then for sure, you probably need a Wevo. I recommend it that highly. I bought the factory short shifter and it did not suffice, so I bought the Wevo.

Save your money, don't buy the factory short shifter. Get the Wevo.

I just installed the seine systems gate shifter in mine - made a huge difference from the vague stock 915. Lot less money too.

I'm a huge fan of the Wevo shifter (and PSJ) for people who are aggressive drivers or do track days. The precision it affords is THE biggest measure of protection against the "money shift".

For those who need it, its FAR cheaper than replacing bent valves.

I’d like to try the Seine system as I think it does 90% (ad hoc number) of what the Wevo does for a lot less money: i.e. provide spring centering for the 3-4 plane. Knowing that, I still plunked my $ down for the Wevo.

The extra 10% I *believe* the Wevo supplies is in the very smooth action and solid feel of the lever itself. The spring “actuators” are well designed and provide a very smooth and positive feel moving the lever side-to-side. I also REALLY like the tall shift **** option. When I unpacked the parts, it was obvious that the quality was stellar.

The Seine is probably the most bang-for-your-buck and the Wevo or Rennshift add perhaps a little more perfection to the deal.

I have the Seine system, and I love it. It was a lot less expensive, but if you have a 901 gearbox you will need to switch out the shifter for a 915. Installation took about 20 minutes, which I really liked, and shifting is incredibly crisp now.

Here's another vote for the Seine Systems unit. I only wished I'd put it on before I did miss that one shift.

Either the Wevo or Seine looks tempting. But - and I'm sure this sounds silly - I'd hate to lose the original shift ****.

Seine uses stock shifter, so you can use any **** you want.

No worries,.....use the Wevo Classic which retains the OEM lever and **** for a totally original appearance.

I installed the Seine kit several years ago. great upgrade and relatively cheap.

anyone install both the Wevo shifter and the gate kit that goes in the tranny?

a friend crashed his tranny, and when rebuilding installed the wevo shifter AND the gate kit. he says it now shifts/feels as good as a G50. I cannot confirm or deny.

another system I have been looking at is the Hargett.

i originally planned to get the seine gate. I tried it in someone elses car so was limited in what i could test but thought straight away it was an improvement over the stock shift, but i found it a little bit clunky/agricultural and shifts were still measured. I would say from my own opinion that the wevo is a next positive step up from the Seine and even if i could reverse time i'd go for the wevo everytime.
It is a massive difference over stock and as a bit of history, i came from a G50 964 back to a 915 so knew straight off the difference between the shifts.
