my wife (of 31+ yrs) has a keen sense for 'guys with small *****' syndrome. big/fast cars, rolex watch, gold chains, etc. etc. with an attitude.

the interesting new twist is the smaller the elec gadget the more expensive. I saw an article in the paper some time ago about the tendance for guys to put their new/little/expensive elec gadget on the bar next the them to display 'I have $$$ to afford one of these.'
