Thanks guys.
As I was laying in bed awake at 3am, as usual these days, it occurred to me that I may also have a vacuum leak somewhere. Off to Autozone later today to "return" some very slightly used 1/2 price VR1 oil , and pick up some starting fluid.

So, I cleaned the ICV and put a bit more torque on the intake nuts. I think I had a slight leak at the #6 manifold joint. It did much better. So, I took it for the cheapest fill-up in over 2 years- straight 91/no 100. On the way home, it started idling at 1100! WTF. I tightened the idle screw in about 3/4 of a turn and that helped, but I'm still at about 900. I only have about a 1/4 turn of the screw left.
I really need to get some miles on and make sure the rings are seated and compression is built up, then I'll see what it ends up at.

I never liked the tq settings for these. At 18.8ft-lbs, I view it as light. I ran them to 21. I now recall doing similar last time too. Maybe my manifold has an imperfection I can't see?

Haha, sure. I've got the September event at Fontana on my calendar. Of course, Palomar Mtn awaits too. Haven't made the climb since February!

I've got a brand new Wong chip. The thing is, that this higher RPM came on after a couple of days. It was idling fine, and except for the stumble coming back down to idle, it ran fine. I did the vacuum thing with the intake, ran about 5 miles to fuel her, and 1/2way home, it started with the high idle.

Just thinking out loud here, but with the increase in volumetric air-intake, could your air flow meter need an adjustment of it's bypass screw. You do still have the AFM don't you? Then again, your idle adjust should compensate for the upstream AFM or MAF. Sometimes a high idle is a "lean-rise" like a vacuum leak, 900/950 RPM is ideal with cams, so...
You've made some major changes...it may be best to observe a bit before fine tuning. Virtually every input parameter has changed and it will continue until things are seated in. Drawing a conclusion in this critical acclamation period is hard.
Maybe a gentle climb up Palomar(sp) Mtn will get it's attention. Poor Ruby is tired from all that open- looping. This is where a piggy back tuner would help, but I suspect it will settle into a tune, and until then just keep a good eye on it. Let us know.

Ed, she just keeps getting better. Time to do another stop light drag race
That is by far the best sounding 9 one one I've had the pleasure of hearing. Can't wait to see it in person again.

Just thinking about you Ed. You have expressed interest in a GT3. There is an original 964 Cup car for sale in the cupcar forum. These are special cars and in no way a comparison to a GT3: barely streetable, but wicked. Great investment. I know one original cup car VERY well and they hold a special place in my heart. The 964 turbo I helped build and race precluded the cup cars and much of the factory "race kit" weissach provided for us found its way to the cup cars with the addition of a lot more. Man what I would do to own one. Anyway...board at work this morning.

Wb, I'm on the same page. I'm going to let the rings seat, make sure there are no vacuum issues, and see where I end up. It's going on a dyno for tune too. Your thought about the AFM is interesting. When I had the manifd leak, it had trouble holding idle. Maybe with that solved, the air volume thing came into play.
I do know she feels like a different car! Quite a bit different in power. Can't wait to really get on her. I went to see a buddy today, and was pulling into his shop parking lot in 1st at about 5mph. I hit the gas about 3/4 and broke the rear wheels loose. She never did that before. The low and mid range R's are where I feel the change. And smooth with all the extra sparkplugs!
I'm sitting on my boat right now, after a fun driving day. I think I'll start a new thread about Ruby's first day back at school.
Sean-I'd love to do the drag again. That was a blast! If I take her back to TX later this year, perhaps we have a go at it? Talked to Brad last night, sounds like I don't miss the TX weather. 70's here today!

You are not missing it, was a thousand degrees yesterday. 92 in the garage right now.
The most fun about that drag race was listening to your exhaust
