+1 on Rusnak's comments/observations.

When I did it (bonnet), I might as well have planned to leave the driver's side clip off,..as it ""took off"" to the abyss, even with the finest tools....presently works fine without, I guess.

Driver8 makes a great recco' with a string (of sorts), although it would have to be quite fine (such as fishing line?). Wished I had of thought of that "prior to"....I was SOOOOOO pissed off that day,..spent FOREVER trying to find the (uncooperative clip,..unsuccessfully.....BTW.)

The damned clip belongs there and I plan to get it back where it lives (one day). (i.e., ""not let it win")

Buy the best,..period.

Good luck to you,

Doyle

Default I don't have any suggestions, but I can attest to the difficulty...

This was the first DYI project I did when I got my car. The passenger's side was a bit tough. Little did I know what I was in for on the driver's side. Like others have stated happened to them, I dropped the clip. Even though I was being especially careful and was fully aware of the consequences. My hands got all cut up and the curse words were-a-flying.

I bought the HD struts from the Performance Products catalog. 4 years later the struts now fail in cold temperatures. Not worth the premium cost. I am not ready to tackle this again.

In cold weather you have to hold the hood open a few seconds.

Even this $50,000 Carrera needs front hood struts

I like the heavy duty support

It only costs a little more if you do it yourself.
