OT: Porsche workshop plan needed
We're moving to a new house on 3 ac. and I want to build a detached Porsche Playhouse (2 car garage/workshop). I'm in an area where the neighbors are not real picky though most of the houses are very nice so I want a building that blends well with the surroundings. I've looked at several websites with garage plans but I've yet to find a plan that suits my needs.
The issue that's making things difficult is I need a ceiling tall enough on one side to put a car lift but leaving the other side low (8'- 9') so I can use the area above it for storage or office (or bed to make it the ultimate doghouse for when the wife is mad). The size should be in the w 26'x d 28' (there's room to play with those dimensions) area.
An exterior design shaped like a barn would blend well and also give me the interior height but I haven't found a plan where the roof trusses(?) would accomidate a lift. Does anyone know where I might find such a plan or have another idea? I am not a carpenter by any means but would like to do as much of the work myself as I can.
The garage plan sites I've checked are:

Thanks for any and all help,

Hi Bill - Sounds like an interesting project. I would look at using a cathedral ceiling truss over the bay with the lift. That might give you enough clearance. This layout would mean that you would not drive in the gabled end of the garage. This should work ok since your dimensions are fairly square. See the cape cod #676-4 on page 1 of the behmdesign website for an idea of how this would look.
Good luck.
