Hi all,
I spend most of my time on the 993 forum and this is my first post here. I took these pictures at the factory Museum restoration shop last year and thought you all might be interested in this car. It is the prototype car for the low production 'Clubsport' 911 offered in 1988/89. I believe this car's base is a '87 Coupe and was put together for management to review before they gave the go ahead for a limited production run. They had just drug it out of a storage facility that day and were getting ready to restore it for the museum. Obviously, some details were changed and refined before production ...
Note single drivers side door mirror ...

I don't think the rear script made it on the production cars ...

I remember seeing a white one on the showroom floor in Seattle and thinking it would make a great driver. I think the cars destined for the U.K. had Carrera CS graphics down the sides with color matched wheels like the RS's from the 70's ... could be R.O.W. but I'm no expert ..

If the USA cars had had those almost-SCRS bumpers, I'll bet they would have sold more than 28 Club Sports here in '88-89. However, it is doubtful that our DOT would have approved them.
The CS really needed something special aside from simply deleting some equipment and slightly tweaking the ECU to differentiate it from a normal Carrera. Same with the '93-94 RS America (of which I owned two), which was also a rather halfhearted effort on Porsche's part.

I'm quite sure those bumpers wouldn't have made it here. Porsche probably wouldn't sell a non-impact bumper on a road cal in Europe either.
Those front wheels look strange to me-maybe they are 8's.

Yes, Jörg Thilow, the gentleman that got me behind the glass and into the shop that day said he thought the front bumper was an old RS after I noted the mismatch at the flare.
I'm not sure about the wheels, but I owned an '87 cab that I bought new that I believe came with 7's and 8's, and these wheels look the same to me. Here's a pic of a stock '87 to compare:

I remember the CS cars. Funky wheels, or maybe funky offset, I dunno. Would need to see different angle to make a guess.
Anyone remember the RS America?

RS Americas are absolutely cool. There was a time they weren't worth much, now they are pretty collectible in the 964 world. They have come down a bit in price the last year.

I like the RSA. But they are not anywhere near what people are trying to get for them. Maybe I could make a RSA "tribute" car and sell it for...say...35K.
