Red Hot Bumper
MAybe this is normal, but I was checking something out last night and I left my car idling for a good 20 minutes. I noticed the bumper got very hot. Is that normal because the muffler is so close to the bumper or is there typicaaly some type of heat resisting pad that should seperate the two?

Morning David,
What car do you have?
Yep, the rear bumper can get very hot, especially on the G-Series with standard exhaust. Even when driving hard you can easily fry an egg sunnyside up.
I know you mentioned that you were checking things, but be careful with the oil/air cooled cars when idling too long, it can be harmful for the engine due to heat, low oil circulation / pressure and little air flow.
Some guys wrap their headers (manifolds) and silencers in heat insulation, but it is not really nescessary.
Best regards, Tom
