It's a blank "plug" for and alarm keypad or accessory.

really .. ? the P.O installed a bosch pull push switch on mine for some reason / presumably for a radar detector.. i rewired it to my antenna so i can have it come down when I am listening to a CD .. figure I could save a few pennies in gas milage

I think you meant speedo instead of Tach. That round plug looking thing on my 88 Carrera is where the vent is on my automatic heater control system. The vent senses the inside temperature and regulates the temp to prevent the old "burning your shins". I think it could be used for anything an innovative person may want to put there.
