Could I get a few eyes on this 83 SC?

Floete,
You may benefit from identifying what your buying parameters are.
The chances of finding a solid car, low mileage, in the correct color, the correct model and at the correct price range are very low (btw, I'm not saying these are yours). Most likely you will end compromising in one of these areas. You may want to identify which one of these are not negotiable and which ones are.
If the color is non negotiable and the color you like is a hard color to find, you can expect to pay more. You do have to be happy with your purchase because as others said, it's not good to buy a car like this and think that you made the wrong purchase when you see others advertised.
I think the best advise is to buy the best one you can afford (or in your price rance). That may end up being a different color.

Floete: These pictures are of my car - an '82 SC w/204K miles. To bring the condition of the silver car to this level would probably take a minimum of $10K, although it would be fine to drive for a while as is. You will be hard-pressed to find a car like this, so you really have to calculate the expense, and the time you're willing to spend, to bring a car to the level that will snap your socks, or you will have to pay far more than $10K for a car.

Wow, that's one helluva car -- and, as it happens, not one I'd be happy owning. Such sophistication really doesn't suit me or the way I live. The silver car, otoh, would have been fine, I think, had the color not been such a turn off for me. And, really, I'm not that picky. If it'd been black, I would have been all over it. Or white. Or green. Or root beer. As it happens, that's the one color, along with the others of a similar shade, that doesn't do it for me. I knew it a while ago, but ignored it because of the other positive qualities about the car. When push came to shove, though, well, I caved.
The other things, the headliner, the bolster, and whatever else, no biggie. But for some reason -- call me shallow -- the color is.
So be it.

I know what you mean, about color, I'm a red/ black/white kinda guy. Heck, even my '95 F 150 was red! Nothing shallow about it at all, if you don't want to wax it, it's probably the wrong car!

I like it when people open up these threads. Since I can't go out and buy a 911 every year, living the thrill of the hunt vicariously is what I have to settle for. Keep it coming. Someone said in one of the recent threads, "The car finds you." I'm sure it will. Now, let's talk about the snow-covered black one again. LOL
What do you mean about Pete's car not suiting you? Too clean? You're looking for something that you wouldn't loose sleep over if it got a few rock chips and a door ding? FWIW, Pete was trying to sell it a couple years ago. I think he was asking around $17,000, and couldn't sell it. I think it was worth it. Another market data point.

Remember, the original reason to sell was because I had found 1965 912 #2, a potential museum car, and when that deal fell through I had no compelling reason to sell. Whew!

Pete,
That is a serious time machine ...just gorgeous! ...but with a car in that condition, is the bonnet held up by a proprod??!!!
...FWIW, glad you kept it. You know now that you're not sorry she didn't get sold!
Hey floete,
I am very picky about color. These cars are all about passion: it's gotta get your heart pumping just from looking at it, IMHO ; otherwise, a car is just an appliance. But if it's too nice, then there's too much to worry about ...and that can kill the enjoyment. When I bought my 95 I waited for the "perfect" example of very clean but worthy of daily driving w/o OCD-ing, the right color and interior, and of course price. It took a while, but patience and diligence pays off in the end. You will find your car!

Yeah, gotta love those hood supports ...until they fail!!
My solution for the SC Trackmeister was the Prop-rod kit ...from the 964RS, IIRC. I heard about it here, and ordered it from Sunset, I think. Light, and it works all the time. Lots to be said about the low-tech solutions!

It looks like I'm not able to PM for some reason? Anyway, I am interested in this car and live in the area. If you could send me the contact info, that would be great. Also, what was the shop you had spoken with about doing the PPI?
