Bright sun, dry road - great day for a January drive. Car is a mess - but I'm OK. Fuel line must have let go - fuel was everywhere and it took forever for the firemen to get the fire out.

Geez, so sorry about this. Thank goodness you got out unscathed. I've been procrastinating about buying a fire extinguisher for my car, but those photos just convinced me to get off my butt and do it.

I had a fire extinguisher in front of the passenger seat. I can tell you when I saw flames, I wanted to get the **** out. Wasn't even a thought about the extinguisher. Not sure it would have helped. Car burned for 10 minutes before they could get it out - fuel everywhere.

Glad you are ok. Clearly the car can be repaired/replaced. Did it just "burst into flame" or did you get smoke, etc. first?? It's kind of an academic point, but for the benefit of others, if it's the latter, an extinguisher could make the difference. If the former, obviouslybetter to get out of Dodge.
FWIW, I also carry a small extinguisher and was (fortunately) able to douse a small engine fire that had just started when passing a motorist on the road with his hood up one day. That little incident prompted me to keep one in the family hauler, as well.

John - I hope to meet with the adjuster tomorrow. It is pretty cooked. Burned for close to 10 minutes before they got it out.
No smoke at all - first thing I saw was flames shooting through the engine grill right after I heard a whoosh. It was fast. Back half of the car was engulfed in less than 5 seconds.

Carbs, MFI, CIS? A serious wake-up call if you don't have a fire extinguisher. I have had a car fire and it is not fun. Keep us posted on where this goes with the insurance.

I just ordered the Rennline mounts for both of my 911s. Maybe an extinguisher won't help in every situation, but I figure it can't hurt to have it there just in case...

MFI - seriously, even if I'd thought to grab the extinguisher, I would have been crazy to try to get the lid up and it directed at the fire. Insurance has been responsive so far - will keep everyone posted.

Oh man!!! Engulfed in flame within seconds is pretty dang catastrophic! Sorry to hear about that, but glad your insurance is stepping up. Hope the best for you!
