Default Alan Gunn Leather Accessories (AGLA)screwed me

I don't usually say negative things about folks until I get fed up from continual runarounds and getting told a lot of untruths. I bought a wheelskin from AGLA on 8 Aug 2009 for my 88 Carrera steering wheel and was hoping to get it on the wheel in a week or two. After two weeks , I tried reaching him by phone to say I had not received the wheelskin. I kept calling over the next two weeks until I finally reached him. He said he had misplaced my order and hoped I would call him so he could ship the item. It was another week before I received the wheelskin in early October.

I was sick for a couple of weeks in October so I couldn't check the wheel to see if the wheelskin fit properly. It's now early october when I try to fit wheelskin to the wheel. It was also a material that was very grainy (not OEM material) and not cut properly. Whoever cut it did a very poor job. The seams would not line up and couldn't be stretched without tearing the holes. I still have the wheelskin as evidence of it being cut incorrectly. I finally got in touch with him after many phone calls to try and resolve the issue. He said he would mail me a return label and I should send the item back. I waited a couple of weeks and attempted to reach him again, to no avail. To this date, he has not responded to my e-mails or phone calls. All I get is his answering machine. I called several times today and also sent an e-mail.

I bought the wheelskin based upon the great compliments he received from other Rennlisters. I am sad to say that my experience with him and his company has been a very negative one. In my 42 years as a Porsche owner buying all kinds of stuff for my cars, this experience is the worst of them. All I would like is my money back, but he won't return my calls, so that is probably a moot point.

I hope no one asks me about his company, because they will get an earful.

Oh, on a good note, I found another company in Dallas Texas that did have exactly what I wanted. So if anyone wants to really know where a reputable wheel recoverer is.....let me know. I sent my steering wheel to them on a Wednesday and received it back in the following Tuesday (one week from the time I shipped it until I reveived it back). It is in the OEM black leather and matches my interior 100% and they did a beautiful job.

I used Dallas Custom Steering Wheel to do my Alcantara project. Don was awesome. Great prices, great quality, and excellent communication. HTH

Scott, it was Dallas Custom Steering Wheels in Garland. Don Le is superb. send me an e-mail at rmcatee@satx.rr.com and I'll send you a copy of the photos he sent me. I didn't have to pay unless I was satisfied.

Thanks, Ron. I may check into him doing my Cayenne wheel and do a thick pad.

I'm not sure what good press you saw on Rennlist. I see a number of gripes about him from time to time-particularly on the 928 board.

Seems like his usual customer service.

I didn't want to go through all the pages on the thread, but I remember someone posting pictures of his steering wheel after being recovered-disgusting skill level.

Robert had problems with them all the way in the 80's when he was a manager at Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories. I just told him Alan Gunn hasn't changed one bit. Wonder how he is still in business.

AGLA has been bad, do a search. there was a big thread about poor qty and zero service. hopefully you get your money back.

if it's a non local vendor and they dont have my friends vouching for them, i either dont do business with them or they ship product first and i pay when i like their product. needless to say, i buy from an extremely select few of vendors whom i trust and know where they live.

I assume you paid with a credit card. Why not dispute the charge? That'll get a response from AGLA!

AGLA was briefly a sponsor here until his contract was cancelled in light of the problems customers were having. Using Search and AGLA will reveal various horror stories.
