Hi Ed,

Techron, in the form of the large black bottles, is very effective at dissolving soft carbon buildups on valves and injectors and as such, should be used just before an oil change to flush the system of the solvent and byproducts of combustion. Some of this stuff always gets by the rings and dilutes the oil to a degree.

Treating the motor 500 miles before the scheduled oil change works perfect.


Motronic cars benefit just as much as CIS cars from using Techron/LubroMoly, etc so I follow the same regimen as above.

Thanks Steve. I've always timed my use of Techron thusly, but I wondered if I was being overcautious.

From the 1981 911SC Owner's Manual:

Gasohol

A mixture of unleaded gasoline and ethanol (ethyl alcohol) known as "Gasohol" is available in gas stations in some areas.

Porsche vehicles are designed and certified to use gasoline as a specified under "Fuel Recommendations". You may decide to use gasohol in your Porsche, provided it contains not more than 10% ethanol and the octane requirements for your car are met.

However, we strongly recommend to switch back to gasoline without ethanol, if you experience the following adverse effects on tour vehicle because of the use of gasohol.

-Deterioration of drivability and performance
-Substantially reduced fuel economy
-Generation of vapor lock and hot start problems, especially at high altitude or at high temperatures
-Engine malfunction or stalling

The continued use of gasohol under these conditions may adversely affect the emission control system of your vehicle.
