Never done it but I have heard that its easier with the glass out. Check Pelican. I thinks its one of the projects in the book.

I believe the windshield must be removed in order to get the dash out of pre-'86 cars. As Mussberger said, search the forums on Pelican, instructions have been posted there several times.

I have a 911sc service manual published by Bently that says you have to remove the windshield to remove the dash. Why do you need to do this? If you want to get behind the gauges they simply pry out (by carefully slipping a screw driver tip under the rubber ring surrounding the gauge).

Thanks for the help. Got the dash out not too bad. Looks like justdashes.com has the best system of reworking it.

I had a BMW 325is e36 parts car and we found a solution to not removing the windshield. We used a hammer to beat small holes in the glass and then inserted long screw drivers through the holes in order to reach the screws in the vents. This approach may not work for you but I figure the need for windshield removal is probably similar. How did you get your dash out?

I'd think twice about that. No axe to grind with them, but look at what they do. They're the Walmart of dashes, and I doubt they have a lot of experience with our cars. They are probably good at straight recovers.

But a 25 year old dash will be best suited to a keen eye, like a shop that knows Porsches:
