Default Need help with Weber tuning, Philadelphia-NJ

Can anyone refer a technician in Philadelphia/Central New Jersey area who is expert with tuning Webers/MSD ignitions? I recently aquired a 1973 T/RS clone with high compression, S cams, and Webers.....ran fine for a while but now has a misfire, popping, backfiring.

Plugged idle jets and passages.

You need to pull the idle jets to blow them out as well as the passages in the carbs.

The REAL issue is finding the source to keep this from recurring!!

Dirt/rust comes from contaminated fuel, poor fuel filtering, air cleaner issues, deteriorating fuel tank, deteriorating engine bay sound insulation pad, etc.

A East Coast location is not in the immediate future plans,... Its FAR too hard to find good people.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am going to have Possum Hollow Motorsports (Bill Boys) in Phoenixville have a look at the car. He came highly recommended and worked on my cars many moons ago.

my '70 had a similar problem. I actually found out that the idle jets were different sizes. I just bored them out a little so that they all matched.

It was a bad spark plug wire on the #4 cylinder. Thankfully no problem with the carbs! Thanks to Bill Boys at Possum Hollow Motorsports in Phoenixville Pa.

Good catch!!

It bears repeating that old wires and faulty OEM plug connectors are responsible for a LOT of these kinds of problems.

Those Beru connectors contain an RF suppression resistor thats well known for failure for many years and thats why we prefer using Magnecor plug wire sets. These have their own connectors that are resistor-less as well as use a much better grade of wire with thick silicone jacketing for heat protection.

Thanks Steve, I am probably going to replace the wire set as you suggest.
PS "Extraordinary Measures" was a worthwhile movie to see!
