Default Odd Radio Issue

I just had an aftermarket radio installed in my 88 Targa. It sounds great while it works. The issue is when I get on the gas the radio shuts off. When I put it in neutral at a stop light or such the radio comes back on. Give it gas it powers down. When I continue to run for another 10 minutes it turns on and stays on. The company who installed it took it back out and reinstalled, same issue. never seen anything like it. Any of you seen or heard anything like this?

Could be a grounding issue. Try this as a temp set up. Put a wire on one of the terminals on the fuse board and hook it to the power in on the radio at the fuse. If you can duplicate the issue you have grounding problem or the radio is shot. Use care, this is a temp diagnostic effort, not permanent.

I was just thinking that some amps need quite a lot of voltage to work, especially after sitting unpowered. If you have a relay, that could have a bad connection.

I would definitely check the alternator at the battery, and the switched power to the radio w a multimeter as suggested. Also clean the battery and power contacts for good measure.
