Question Fuel pump - 944 will work with 911???

Trying to find a cost effective (cheap) fix...

Fuel pump on the '83 SC stopped working. Looking for a replacement I see that the 944 fuel pump looks exactly the same as the one in my car. I can get a new 944 pump for 100.00 where an SC fuel pump is in the mid 200.00s.

Will it work???

Nope. The 944 pump is a Motronic (Bosch L Jetronic). Much lower fuel pressure. Will not work on a CIS 911. I think $200 for an SC fuel pump is pretty good actually. They were around $400 last year. Call around, and try Napa Auto, Kragen, and Auto Zone in addition to your normal foregin car suppliers.

FWIW, I picked up a Walbro GSL392 pump kit (includes adapters) for my SC from fuel-pumps.net for $150. Works wonderfully.

Don't talk to be about 944 ownership... I had (technically still have it, just owned by my brother-in-law) a 944 Turbo that I took down to bolts and rebuilt... Great car that I still love and would not mind owning again... but cheap? ha!

Yeah I did the same with my S . Would have been much more worthwhile with a 951 I think. Still .. traded it for a 911 so didn't do badly ...

I ordered new sealing washers, new rubber mounts, base, clamp, short fuel hose from tank to pump, etc... and incorrectly ordered the 944 pump instead (but was able to call in to cancel that).

Now I just need to find a good price for the correct fuel pump and place the order.

Thank you!

As long as system pressure is maintained and it fits, you should not be considered a cheap *****...just prudent. There is no majic in a bosch fuel pump and you are not a slave to the highway robbery most parts-houses get for Porsche parts. I got a wiper motor and axles for my 924S from advance auto parts = all for $200 and great warrenty/overnight shipping(free). But I am a cheap *****.
