Hi all - New 911 owner here. I just purchased the 1987 Carrera Cabriolet you see below. It has a couple of small issues, but the price was right. I look forward to hanging out here and learning as much as I can about this interesting machine.

Thanks,

John

Thanks. It has 145,000 miles, but it runs well and hasn't dropped any oil on my garage floor in the two days I've owned it which is better than I expected. The idle is a little rough on cold start and it smooths out some when warmed up, but I think it needs a little adjustment. It has had two owners and came with the original owner's manual, warranty book and a pretty good stack of records. The first owner had the car for 18 years and serviced it at a place called Eurotech in Florida. The second owner purchased it in 2005. The top and interior are both new. It has the original jack, took kit and spare. I purchased it from Jim Ellis Volkswagen, so that adds a little piece of mind as well.

Wow, I just had my first Porsche sticker shock. I just called Hagerty to get my insurance updated. I had a '72 Pantera that I had insured for $35,000 which I just sold. I had removed it from my policy (which effectively canceled the policy), but I had to sign something and send it back to actually close the policy. Well, since I now have this car, I can keep the policy and remove the Pantera. The Pantera was costing me about $275 a year. I told the girl that I wanted to insure the porsche for about $17,500. She quoted me $450/year. When I asked why, she said it was because it was newer and easier to drive (apparently she's never driven a 911). Since I had a credit, I decided to keep the policy through expiration in May. After that I may have to do some shopping.

I ended up going with Grundy for less than that with a higher agreed value. I don't know what other experiences, if any, others on this forum have had, but the difference between Grundy and Hagerty was significant enough that I decided to give them a try.

In my opinion that is a stunning color combination. Looks like a nice car, congratulations and welcome!

What annual mileage limitations do these two insurance companies have? As soon as my car is painted, I have to get better coverage.

Joe Six, you didn't say if this is your primary transportation or your coverage is under a collector policy. I assume it's under a collector policy since your Pantera was. I have my "P" car under a collector policy with State Farm W/O any mileage restrictions with good competitive rates. I also have our family cars covered under State farm...

+ 1 on the beautiful color... and nice wheels!

That seems high. I have my Benz SL at 17.5k with Hagerty and it's 296/year.
