When I bought my 88 Carrera Cab four years ago it came with 17" 993 Cup wheels running 215/40s on the front and 255/40s on the back.
My car originally came equipped with 16" Forged Fuchs (from the build sticker) and that is what I am replacing the 17" wheels with as the last major restoration of the vehicle back to stock. I have ordered Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s (Porsche N0) from Tire Rack with 205/55s in the front and 225/50s in the back which was the stock size for the 16" option.
I'd like to know what alignment settings (toe/camber) I should set for street driving only and what differences in handling and performance I can expect from the original wheel/tire combo as compared to the 17" wheel/tire combo I have had.
Thanks...

and i can tell you for a fact the 17 inch wheel will handle better because I have been running them alternatly for the last 4 years with my 16 inch fuchs. The 17s have far less sidewall flex and provide for crisper turn ins. The look is subjective . I have 3 sets of wheels and I like the look of them all ..

The Fuchs are painted Grand Prix White so you probably need to know that as that will affect how it performs...

The overall diameter (OD) of the tire and wheel together is what matters. 225/45 x 15" (23" OD) is quicker than 255/40 x 17" (25" OD). Top speed drops down from about 149 MPH to about 135 MPH at red line in fifth gear. IMHO, smaller OD rear wheels on most road courses improves performance.

..and I would assume if you are going to larger wheels you are correcting for overall rolling radius by going to a different aspect ratio tire.. to make sure the overall diameter of the wheel is the same..
