Default Wreck Destroyed Porsche, Son OK

Wreck Destroyed Porsche, Son OK

My 39 year old got into a one car low speed shunt yesterday on the way to work. The good news is that he caught a tree as he went off roading and then heavy brush stopped him as he approached the ledge to go into the canyon. He said that he had the classic flash of ------ 3 week old son, 3 year old son, wife, death as he approached the edge of the cliff. The other good news is that he totaled the Boxster and not the 911. I do not know if there was sand, water, oil, or a tire that had lost pressure, but with the driver skill, the car and the speed, this again defines the fact that accidents happen and a coupe with a roll cage and 5 point belts is well worth the money. However, he indicated that the Boxster design was a factor in the good ending of the event--- I did not get the details. The boy seems OK; fortunately he pumps iron and keeps in good condition. Needless to say, we are a very happy and lucky family whose legs are still wobbly.

I'm VERY pleased to hear that your son is OK (rattled, I'm sure).

People cannot be replaced,....cars are expendable.

Wow. Glad he and the entire extended family got a pass on that one. It is moments like those which re-define what is and is not important, truly. Best to you all.

It's heart in your throat reading, when you hear of news like this. I am relieved that he is ok, and happy for your family.

Whew! When I had my shop I saw a few turn out this way (OK), and a few turn out not-so-good. Putting a car into the weeds is usually OK, playing with trees, well, not so good! We should never forget how brutally strong P-cars are, but we should always work to ensure that we don't find that out first hand!

Jake-

Wow, I'm sure it happened fast! Glad to hear he had teh skill to make the best of it and avoid the canyon.

Best line of the email: The other good news is that he totaled the Boxster and not the 911

Although I do not wish what happened on anybody...it is moments like those that makes one appreciate life more and that helps us place things in perspective.
glad things are okay

Great news on this one. If I was headed to a cliff, I think my heart would quit if I didn't go over, so maybe he's double-lucky.

This could be a blessing in disguise. It is good to know what is truly important, and act accordingly.

I think your son must have a friends in high places, thank goodness for that.

Yeah, 240Zs don't do so well....... that's me on the left....

+1 on the safety equipment. I can tell you from experience this tree was going nowhere and death was seemingly the only option before impact. Life flashing before your eyes, yes it happens.

5 pt harness and properly built cage let us race (breathe) another day.
