'87 Carrera: General Tune-Up Items.
For my '87 Carrera, it's general Tune-Up time. Can anyone recommend Plugs, Cap, Rotor, and Wires? I saw where Pelican Parts has wires but they are about $240.00. Might there be lessor expensive wires but still acceptable? I appreciate it and thanks. Dan

Dan,
I'm at the same point you are...time for the annual tune-up/servicing before winter sets in.
I installed Magnecor plug wires & connectors on my 1984 and 1977 911's. I am very pleased with their performance and they are only about $140 to $150 a set. Search around because there are several vendors that sell them.
I have had good success over the years with Bosch caps and rotors. I use NGK copper spark plugs; they are cheap and work very well in a 911.
You may also want to replace your fuel filter and air filter during your tune-up. I assume you are doing a oil change and valve adjustment also, so a new oil filter and valve cover gaskets will be needed. It is also a good time to check your fan belts and replace as needed.

Dan, I concur with Magnecor wires-very happy with my year old set of 8mm's, you can order direct from them just go to their web site. Stick with Bosch cap and rotor, Vertex has a 10% off until 10-26-02 and their regular price is very competitive all ready. I recommend platinum plugs because their gap will not change nearly as fast as the copper plugs will. Again Bosch. Mobil 1 has a 20-50W I recommend but I don't know how cold our climate is. The 10-30W was too fluid for my mileage and weeped more than the 20-50W. I would also recommend changing the transmission oil at 60000 mi. Mark
