Post G-50 in an early 911?

This is probably a stupid question, but i was wondering if it is possible to put a G-50 993 six speed in an early 911 chassis(pre 1974). I know the 1987 carrera's had bent torsion bar tubes to fit the g-50 5 speed. Could you then weld a bent torsion bar tube into a early 911, and mount a G-50 six-speed.

thanks

Yes, the G-50 can be put in the pre-87 cars. But it doesn't really make sense, economically, to do it. If smooth shifting is that important to you, then it just makes sense to get a later -- and all-around smoother -- car. If you're looking for better performance, then it makes sense to get a close-ratio 915 built. The G-50 is geared kind of tall for racing, and it weighs more than the 915.

Patrick Motorsports makes a shortened bellhousing for the G50. They're the generally-acknowledged leader in this niche field. Many guys have done it, and they would obviously disagree with me. But I considered it, and then decided to invest my money elsewehere.

Remember also that G50 clutches are hydraulic, which means you'll have to rework your pedal cluster for a master cylinder and run a line to a slave cylinder. I love my G50 and I love the early cars. But it just looks like such an inefficient use of money and headache to do such a conversion.
