Talking Want To Say Hello - New Member!

Hey all, I just wanted to say hello as one of your newest members. I am new to the p-car world, having inherited my father's 81 SC Targa. Unfortunately, he kind of let it go during the last few years he was alive and the interior definitely suffered for it (leaky targa during the rain, living on a hill, parking it facing downhill, ended up with puddles in the footwells over and over.. destroyed a lot of the interior)...

But I got it back on the road a couple months ago, and have been working as fast as I can to get it up to snuff. Fortunately, mechanically it is in really good shape. I have records that go back to 1985. The bottom end was re-done about 45k miles ago, and the tranny was completely rebuilt 50k miles ago. New clutch about 5k ago, has the carrera tensioner upgrade, later style alternator, euro rear taillight lenses, really nice 3 piece BBS style wheels.

I was able to get a full set of interior carpet on craigs list for 200 bucks (though the color is cork, and the stock interior is champaigne)... But i've kind of done a paint by numbers thing with it. The trim on the top of the doors is cork, as well as the door pockets (which were the biggest reasons that i wanted to get things looking good, as the driver's side door panel didnt have the pocket on it as it broke a few years before my dad died, and unfortunately it was thrown away...), and also the front floor mats. The rest of the carpeting is champaigne, and the door panels are the nice tan leather that came originally with the car. The driver's seat was toast, so I installed a gorgeous Sparco Milano Beige Alcantara Sport Seat that i absolutely love. Eventually i'll put one on the passenger side, but it was expensive... Their top of the line seat except for the leather covered version... Also, the dash is the maroon color, and i found a newly re-covered maroon leather dash that i'll have installed when i have some money saved up, since it is apparently quite the job to do. But it will be fantastic to get that in there, as right now, there is one of those hard plastic, shiny black dash covers on there right now, covering up the original dash which has a couple cracks in it... i was warned by my mechanic that i have to make sure to take really good care of it, and keep it conditioned regularly, otherwise the leather will end up shrinking and pulling up on the dash, making it quite unsightly...

I also upgraded the sway bars to mid 80's carrera bars that i got on craigs list from the same person i got the interior from. He even installed them for me... really great guy... It was an amazing upgrade from stock.

I also installed a momo race steering wheel. I had the steering wheel on my 83 Audi UrQuattro, but right now, that car is in the garage and im not driving it for various reasons. Im thrilled with the momo wheel, as I also installed the 1/2" momo spacer, which moved the wheel closer to me, and w/ the smaller diameter, my legs actually fit in the car!!! (im 6'2"). So, for the first time, I feel like I actually fit in the car and can drive it for real.

The car was originally guard's red, but had a FULL repaint in a beautiful gold metallic color. The only way you can tell that it used to be red is that they didn't pull the engine in order to paint it... The paint job could easily be factory. I don't know why it was done, but i dig it... It looks fantastic with the gold centers on the wheels...

Umm... I live in San Francisco, and I used to race cars for audi in a touring car series in the US for a couple years back around 2000-2002...

Anyway, this ended up being a long post... If anyone has any hints or anything to say, i'd love to hear em...

I f-ing love this car...

Michael

They'll be coming in the next day or two. I'll take a couple pics over the weekend.

Welcome Michael! Lots of great folks here who are willing to share fish stories, tech expertise, as well as their own time turning a wrench. Welcome to a great community, and congrats on the car (not to mention those 3-piece BBS' are really "80s-period" cool!!).

Welcome! You are enviously close to both Partshaven and European Auto Salvage Yard. The best way to buy used parts is to go in and pick them out yourself.
