Default First Impression MAXHP (Russell Berry) Multiboard Chip

I installed my MaxHP (Russell Berry) Multiboard and went for a test drive today.
For those not following the previous thread, my board includes the following selectable images:
1) Stock, 2) 91 Octane Performance, 3) 93 Octane Performance, 4) Valet, and 5) No Start
Note: there are 3 additional image bins available for optional programming for a total of 8 images.

My first impression is:

SIGNIFICANTLY MORE POWER AT LOW AND MID RPMS. I live in a very hilly area and get to climb a steep grade with 180-degree switchbacks. There's not much way to keep the rpms up. Where my car seemed to lack enthusiasm before, it PULLS now.

I found a long straight and did a few 0-80mph runs. Impressive. Lots of low and mid rpm power that wasn't there before. I feel the pull in the upper rmps as well, but I won't judge that until I'm on the track. I can say I get to the upper rpms a lot quicker!

THE SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE REV LIMITER WAS AN UNEXPECTED PLEASURE!
I still shift at the same point (in other words, I don't try to burry it in the red)but the beauty is, I don't accidently hit the limiter now. Hitting it scrubs speed and it's not good on the engine. Those few extra rpms make it soooo much smoother when I get up in the red.

THE OTHER BENEFIT WAS A SMOOTHER IDLE.
I wasn't expecting that. Smoother idle at both 91 and 93 settings.

Most of my driving today was at the 93 Octane setting. But the 91 had similar results. I didn't drive it quite as hard so it's difficult to compare. I haven't tried the Valet and Nostart functions yet.

INSTALLATION WAS SIMPLE.
Russell has a good set of instructions with photos on his website. No problems encoutered.

I ran the ribbon under my carpet along the shifter tunnel and then on top. I cut a small hole in the carpet for it to emerge.

For testing purposes, it's taped to my shifter console. But I will soon be running the selector switch on the inside of the consule. I'll cut a small hole in the front so only the switch face emerges. Thus, it will be contained within the shifter console.

Pictures to follow when the project is complete.

I'm very happy with the Multiboard. Russell still has them on sale insanely cheap through September. BUY ONE!!

I took the car out again, and I was more impressed the second time. The placebo effect can certainly be a factor, but I ran a very steep hill with hairpin turns with the stock setting and with 93. It is different. The car never seems to "bog down/lug" with the 93 selection.

Of course, the objective is to keep rpms high, but there are places on the road and track that they are gonna drop some. It's very nice to feel it pulling through those areas now. It may not be an issue in a GT3, but in a 3.2 it's a significant difference.

When I get to the the track in a few weeks, I'll get to really test the upper range.

Also, I took my mom with me on one run and she commented on how "smooth" the car felt. I'll take that as expert tesitmony. If my 77 yr old mom can feel it, it must be real.

Oh yeah - I tried the nostart. It nostarted

I think mine ran out of steam in the high revs compared the the SW chip, but it does pull more at the low into mid range, as you've noted.

Shannon, is that a fire extinguisher mount (the red bar)? I used the center console to mount a ciggy lighter socket and a remote for my subwoofer. You can probably drill a hole in the top of the z shaped plastic, but I was thinking "if you pull the switch out from the cord (is that possible?) then you'd have the ultimate no start security device".

I have fixed-back race seats but they're on sliders for fore and aft movement. The red bar is to lock/unlock the sliders. By the way, the belts you see on the floor are 6pt sub belts, not shoulder harnesses as someone feared they might be

You'd have to check with Russell on the ability to pull the switch from the cord. It doesn't appear possible without a lot of modificiation.

I haven't been able to assess the upper rpms really. Having a mostly-stock 3.2 I tend to run in the upper rpms but not in the red. So power up there is certainly important. But I'd say the place I tend to lose ground on the track is anytime I lose momentum going in/coming out of a turn. At those points, I'm in the mid-rpm range. In a car like mine, any loss of momentum means I'm about to get overpowered by a Turbo, 4S, Viper, etc. So having a little "umph" there might be a welcome trade to upper rpm pull.

I keep thinking of carousel turns... I'm still learning to go in hot and throttle steer around, thus keeping the rpms up. But I don't think anyone goes through those near the red unless in 2nd gear. I've tried 2nd gear but it definitely scrubs speed. If I can carry a little more speed, throttle steer, and come out fast in the mid-rpm range, add in the extra hp from the chip, I think I can keep the damn turbo from taking me on the following straight!

The switch's cable unplugs from the chip itself for removal. The way he's mounted the cable to the switch, that isn't a good connection to try and break.
