Question Help with noise from left side of engine

Here's the problem: Today I noticed what sounds like an exhaust leak from the left (drivers) side of the engine. It is very localized to the area near the #1 cylinder, timing chain, exhaust area. It is audable at all engine RPMs. I crawled under while the engine ran trying to pin point the leak. Every so often I heard what almost sounded like a metallic clink. Same area. I had previously been driving and had pushed the engine to almost 6000RPM during a little speed run. The engine was rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago. I do not have oil fed chain tensioners. The motor is a 1973T 2.4L MFI. Any thoughts? I really do not want to have to put another couple grand into this car. Other than this noise which started today the car has always run great.
Thanks,

What did you have done during the rebuild?

New bearings, seals, chains, guides, rings, Pistons checked and reused, crank checked reused, anything worn was replaced. Car was running fine up until yesterday. Still starts right up and idles perfectl, just has the noise that sounds like an exhaust leak from the area of #1 cylinder and exhaust header. I was not able to find any obvious leaks.

Take a piece of hose and try to localize the sound by listening thru the hose. Also, you can put something solid, like a half a broomstick, against various parts of the engine to try to localize it.
