Default seeking advice buying a 996T

greetings- coming from the 951 world and am interested in entering the 996 turbo arena. wondering if any of you could offer some advice on which model years may be better or best options to look for or perhaps more importantly things to look out for. I heard about rear main seal problems with some of the non turbo engines but any other weak points to know about? I'm considering a 2003 coupe just for street use and am comfortable in the garage having built my motor. Are the X50s rare or worth the money if I can find one? how difficult (or different) are 996s to work on yourself (perhaps compared to a 951)?

Thanks very much, hope to join you all soon

2002 or newer. Few if any changes after that. X50 is a rip-off unless you really want a factory stock car. Easy to make big hp with the 996 turbo cars. I had an '01 with EVOMS GT-610 kit. Almost violently fast and there are many cars out there with more power. Didn't think the car had much feel but very usable as a dd and very great values right now.

Well, if you like to wrench on cars, compared to your 951 your tools will rust before you need them.

I went from a 89 951 to a 911. Yeah, I did some work on my early 911s, but it was way, way less than what I had to do on my 944s.

I don't have a 996TT, but the most I do with my car now is clean the wheels.

Like with all Porsche things, the latest is the best.

The latest is the best. I've had this one for over a year and no wrenching required to date. It loves the track and so far I'm still the limiter. I had a 1996 coupe before this car, and I'm still trying to break out of "knowing" the limits of that rear driver. It was a great car; this is much better.
