Many years ago there was a special sunshield available (through a PCA Porsche Panorama advertiser) which was a far better solution that tinting,--it was reversible, and looked nice, effectively lowering the heat in my coupe. At the time I had 1981 coupe and was in OKC,--what better test is there!

I took them out when I sold the car. Have them in the attic. They are like little louvers and all painted flat-black, and fit inside each of the rear window, secured with simple straight pins, holding them in position. Very light in weight.

That company would do well to advertise them again.

Sure if you want to help keep the car cooler, leather from hardening, and the carpet from fading. Just use a high quality product with professional installation. Below is what Texas heat and sun did to my car. On the left the faded carpet; on the right, the way it should look. Now my car is tinted and much cooler.

By the way, next to rice, ghetto is the most overused, non relevant to Porsche word on the internet. Personally, I believe in form follows function. But by all means if anyone thinks tint will make their Porsche, Ferrari, or McLaren look like its from the poor part of town by all means don't tint it.

Edward & Scott - Thanks for the posts and info! I asked the local Porsche dealer where they would take their new cars for tinting and got name for a local shop. Will talk to them about their warranty and defroster wires next week.

Thanks!

Good deal, Rob. Done right, you will not regret it. Remember, there are lots of shades lighter than drive-by-shootin-drug-dealin-ghetto-slingin-limo tint.

Use of the rear defroster is not recommended when windows are tinted. The tint retains the heat from the windshield and the tint can separate from it.

I have always thought a 911 would look great with 50% all the way around. Including windshield. That would make a smooth transition from window to window. My 2 cents.

Tinting should always follow state guidelines. I believe here in Texas, 35% is the darkest you an install legally. Unless they've changed the law since 2000.
