Friends have used it and they say it works. I have the regular smoked tint on my cars and there is a big difference in heat transmission. I usually drive with windows down and I can feel the sun on my arm/shoulder. When I bring the window up, I can feel less heat from the sun. The Huper Optik is supposed to cut the heat transmission even more.

I'm not sure what the safety laws are in your county, but you might also want to get a clear tint for your windshield. That will make a significant difference as it filters the heat from all directions, not just the sides and rear.

Tinted mine. Think it looks fine, of course it's mine and I do with it as I like. You should too.

I have not tinted my Porsche (red w/tan interior) , but I have tinted my Subaru Legacy (silver w/black interior). The tint plus one of those folding sun shades does lower the temp considerably. I made the mistake of not getting the ceramic tint and now my radio reception has been greatly reduced (antenna is in the rear window of the Legacy).

Ok, so I was giving this some thought and I couldn't remember what an Ugly or a "Ghetto" looking Porsche" would look like. (As I couldn’t really remember seeing one in the Ghetto?) So I asked my younger brother as he is a bit of a car guy. And he brought up a really good point. It isn't so much the tint that makes the car look "Ghetto" it is more the "Grade of Tint" that makes the car look "Ghetto".

So my opinion is that if you want to tint your P-Car, just take it easy and don't "Paint the windows black! As that would make the car look "Ghetto". I have given a lot of thought to tinting my own windows, but haven't come up with a conclusive answer as of yet? However I also have a 1996 Land Rover D1 that I bought from a guy in SC, and this guy went way over did the tinting so dark that you basically cannot see inside from the outside, this kind of turns me off me off. Not to mention, I think that having your windows too dark is actually a misdemeanor and you can get a ticket here in Michigan. (I haven't gotten one yet, so that is good news.)

I really think that if you are going to tint your windows, be reasonable and don't go nuts and over do it like you are some pimp *** Rap Star looking for a drive by! Like everything else in your Porsche be tactful and do it so it looks like it is supposed to be there. And if you are some "Pimp *** Rap Star" and I just offended you?" Grow some thicker skin.

If you decide to tint, make sure the shop you use is aware of any state laws that require a measured level of transparency through the driver / passenger side windows. CO is actively enforcing this law and got pulled over in a TT this spring and ended up with a $150 ticket. I think it is a "gangster" thing... motor cycle cop had this small electronic device that slid over the edge of the glass and measured the transparency. Have since sold that car... it did look a little "gangster"

Have been thinking about a LIGHT tint on the '88 as the black interior gets pretty hot this summer and think it might not look bad with white / black color combo.

I need to do some searches on the site before doing that as I am a little worried about the rear window defroster lines, eventual bubbles in the tint and at some point removing the tint without screwing up the defroster wires.

Since the poll is closed a tie breaker is unlikely

Well there was a surge by the improved looks gang but it looks like they ran out of steam in the end ... another poll that shows just how diversified we are in our opinions .. and yet we are all right

Thanks all for the input - I'm still on the fence but may go with a light ceramic tint to help with the heat. I don't think that will look to ghetto nor impair outward vision but am concerned with giving cops just another reason to stop me. Although I am on a new personal best with no tickets (except photo radar which doesn't really count) in 7 years!

Hi Scott,

The new tint materials block better than the stuff from when we were kids. Which means that you can get the lightest tint and still get excellent heat/UV rejection. Living in SoCal (no, not the beach ), I know all about hot cars baking in the sun. IMHO, tinting is a no-brainer, heck yes, why didn't you have it done yet proposition. With a good film, no one will ever even know it's there ...or you can get one shade "darker" than transparent for the rear window so it looks like your side windows are not tinted if you are concerned about a ticket.

Edward, being in SoCal you may not know the answer but the rear window has external defroster wires (as oppossed to being imbedded in the glass) and I was wondering if the rear window defroster lines will eventually cause bubbles in the tint ? Will it be tough to remove and replace the tint without screwing up the defroster wires?
Thanks!

If your tint installer is good you will not have a problem with bubbles. My Acura was tinted 15 year ago with a lifetime guarantee on the installation and no problem at all. Although, I don't use the defroster as much as you are being in CO.

On the removal, they have chemical that they spray on to help with the removal process to prevent damage to the rear window.

Hi Rob,

Sonny is correct: a good installer makes for perfect results. FWIW, with every car I've had in the past, along with friends, brothers, parents, and the like, I've personally had numerous vehicles (dunno, maybe around 15 or few more??) had tints installed and all but one was issue-free. The one problem (my own dad's car ...bummer!) the installer cut one of the defroster lines. Make sure you have this conversation with the installer and have some kind of warranty in writing.

Bottom line is a good film properly installed will look seamless/invisible, not fade or change color over the years, and definitely should not bubble regardless of weather. I can't tell you how many examples I can account for that are still perfect after many a year. Hope this helps you

Edward
