Question 1st gear Syncro

First gear syncro? Is this a big deal? Thinking about buying this car on ebay:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1869114151" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1869114151</a>

any help/feedback would be appreciated.

Hmmm... Synchro's can be a problem. I ahd the 1 -3 synchros replace on my SC (along w/ the clutch). $2500 - $3000. In my experience, a worn 1st gear synchro usually means 2nd is worn too. Call around to a couple of independent P-car shops and see what they get.

If you do decide you want to pursue the car get a PPI (but you knew that...), and DRIVE THE CAR. Personally I'd pass on any car I couldn't drive first.

Also, I'd wonder about the repaint. It hides so much... A quality repaint costs ~$4000. It's hard to justify this sort of expense on a car of this age/value. Corners may have been cut.
Cheers,
Chris

Call Gary Fairbanks: 203-866-2466. He's in Norwalk, CT and is one of the best transmission guys around. (see his ad in Pano) He can tell you everything you need to know about 915's.
