Sticking Ignition Switch
Does anyone know how to fix the ignition switch. When i remove the key, it does not go to its locked position. I have to insert the key just a little bit and move it back and forth a couple of times until i hear a click.
You might check that the electrical portion is seated into the mechanical portion. The spring is located in the electrical side of the switch, which wears out. Eventually the contacts go, and then the car starts to act possesed.
..and the plastic casing starts to break up around the spring , and strts to Jam , sounds like that is what is happening to you. ..besides .. it is the electrical or the mechanical part .. and the electrical part is WAY cheaper ...
I had some issues with my key switch nearly 2 years ago... I flooded it with an DPS electrical contact cleaner. I inserted the plastic red straw/tube as far as I could into the key-way slot and let her rip. It was amazing the dark crud that came out. WARNING: you'll want to put some rags under the dash to catch the excess fluids that could drip on your carpet.
